Manufacturing and Industrial SEO for Chicago Companies

Engineers, plant managers and buyers research suppliers in Google, ChatGPT and Gemini long before they call. I get manufacturers, distributors and industrial service companies found in all of them, with the technical pages buyers actually use.

Working in Chicago search since 2004. 5.0 on Google. Serving the city and the suburbs.

What Industrial SEO Has to Cover

Manufacturing SEO is the work of getting an industrial company found by the people who specify, buy and service what it sells: searches for part numbers and specs, "near me" searches for repair and service, and the AI answers buyers now ask for a supplier shortlist. The buyers are technical, the sales cycles are long, and one good lead can be worth a year of marketing.

Buyers use more than Google now. For one industrial client's Chicago branch, I scanned "air compressor repair" on four engines on September 14, 2026 (Local Falcon, 9 by 9 grid): the branch held a 100% share of local voice in Google Maps, a 71.6% share of AI visibility in Google AI Mode, 44.4% in ChatGPT and 33.3% in Gemini. Each engine needs its own work, and the gaps show exactly where to start.

The same client's website was rebuilt in 2026. Weekly Google impressions went from about 12,700 in July to about 31,800 in August, 2.5 times as many in the first month after relaunch, and its five branches held Google Maps top 3 positions at 394 of 405 grid points for that keyword.

Where Industrial Companies Lose Buyers in Search

Five gaps I find on most manufacturer and distributor sites.

  • Product information locked in PDFs

Spec sheets and catalogs in PDF are hard for AI engines to quote and easy to lose in a redesign. Key specs belong on the page, with the PDF as a download. For one manufacturing client I kept 39 legacy PDFs at identical paths during a migration because other sites linked to them.

  • Branch pages that are copies of each other

Each branch needs its own page and Business Profile with the services, brands and service area it actually covers.

  • Pages written for nobody in particular

An engineer wants specs and tolerances, a plant manager wants downtime and service response, a buyer wants lead times. Good industrial pages answer each one directly.

  • An old platform slowing everything down

Plugin-heavy WordPress sites with dated templates hurt speed and crawling. A careful rebuild keeps the rankings and fixes the foundation.

  • No measurement beyond Google

If ChatGPT or Gemini leave you off a shortlist, you need to know. I track AI visibility alongside Google rankings.

Industrial Work, With Numbers

2.5x weekly Google impressions in the first month after one industrial client's 2026 site relaunch (about 12,700 a week in July, about 31,800 in August).

394 of 405 Google Maps grid points in the top 3 across that client's five branches for "air compressor repair" (Local Falcon, September 14, 2026).

39 legacy PDFs kept at identical paths during a manufacturing client's migration.

Companies I Work With

Manufacturers, industrial distributors, equipment service companies and B2B suppliers in Chicago, the Midwest and across the US.

The work fits best when you sell to technical buyers and want one senior person who can talk to your engineers and your sales team in the same week.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is SEO for manufacturers different?
The buyers are technical and the sales cycle is long, so the pages have to carry real specs, applications and service details. Search volume is lower than in consumer markets, but each lead is worth far more.
Do ChatGPT and Gemini matter for industrial companies?
Yes. Buyers ask them for supplier shortlists. For one industrial client's Chicago branch on September 14, 2026, Local Falcon measured a 71.6% share of AI visibility in Google AI Mode, 44.4% in ChatGPT and 33.3% in Gemini for air compressor repair, against a 100% share of local voice in Google Maps. Each engine needs its own work.
Can we keep our PDFs and catalogs?
Yes, and you should keep the URLs other sites link to. Put the key specs on the page too, so search engines and AI engines can read them.
Can you rebuild our website without losing rankings?
Yes. I map every URL, redirect and linked file before anything launches. My website migration SEO page walks through the protocol.
Do you work with companies outside Chicago?
Yes. I am based in Chicago, but the work runs remotely and I take industrial companies anywhere in the US.
