Metra Rail Accepts Credit Cards Online… Finally
Sep 9th
For those in the metropolitan area of Chicago, you probrably have riden the Metra Rail system at some time in your life. Well, you would imagine that could buy your tickets online and print them from home right? Nope. Well, not until today at least. Metra surprised the media yesterday by announcing their new $3 milliion web redesign. Now accepting credit cards, buying tickets is easier than ever for the train.
I just bought a monthly pass with my Mastercard because I go to DePaul University in Chicago. It worked very well I guess; Credit card processors can only be so exciting. But anyways, I thought this was worth a note because of how much money Metra put into this redevelopment. About $3 million as I mentioned before. And it took 3 years. Kind of gives you a “guage” of what you pay for in the web development market.
See you on the train.

Facebook Now Half the Size of Myspace!
Jul 19th
It’s official. Alexa.com’s ranking comparison tool told me today that Facebook is now half as big as Myspace.com. Take a look for yourself:

I really admire Facebook’s growth – although I don’t give them all the credit. The site has been booming since January of 2007 – with traffic doing nothing else but increasing.
Will Facebook be hitting a wall anytime soon? Pun intended.
Google & Paid Links – What is Google Thinking?
Apr 16th
Matt Cutt’s recently blogged about how Google’s taking action to discredit websites that are selling links to websites that want to gain higher SERPs. To sum it all up, Google provides a public spam report link (https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/spamreport?hl=en) where anyone can report a website for selling web links. Ideally this would. But we don’t live an idea, we live in reality. That said, it’s hard to imagine how and why Google thought that the public would take care of this “link selling infestation” that’s screwing with their search engine.
This method will fail. I wrote on Matt’s blog saying,
I hate to be a drag b/c I love almost anything that involves Google and I think they’re a great company in general – but this method of “filtering” out will be abused by exactly the same people that Google doesn’t want indexed, let alone selling links.
Just watch the sabotage take fold.
And I still stand by that statement. Just watch.
