<p>On Saturday May 3rd, Yahoo received another counter bid for the acquisition of Yahoo by Microsoft.  Yahoo declined their offer (again)&#8230;</p>
<blockquote><p>At the meeting, which also included Yahoo’s other founder, David Filo, and a Microsoft president who oversees its online unit, Kevin Johnson, Mr. Ballmer increased Microsoft’s offer to $33 a share, or a total of about $47.5 billion, from $29.40 a share. Mr. Yang told Mr. Ballmer that Yahoo would not accept an offer below $37 a share, this person said. -<a title="NyTimes" href="http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/04/technology/04soft.html">NyTimes</a></p></blockquote>
<p>Yahoo was simply milking the cow, but it looks like they either got greedy or they overvalue their assets.  Microsoft&#8217;s Chief Executive went on to say: “After careful consideration, we believe the economics demanded by Yahoo do not make sense for us, and it is in the best interests of Microsoft stockholders, employees and other stakeholders to withdraw our proposal.”  Tough love Yahoo!  Not to worry though - Yahoo shouldn&#8217;t have any problem selling their company for a couple billion - it&#8217;s only a matter of who offers the most dollars.</p>
<p>A few other companies who have showed interest in the acquisition of Yahoo is AOL (Time Warner), MySpace (Fox), and <a href="http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/latestnews/stories/050108dnmetbillion.b623795f.html">this guy</a>.  Should be very interesting to watch how this unfolds in the next year or two.</p>

<p><strong>Page Rank Checker</strong></p>
<p>Okay, page rank has NOTHING to do with how well your website performs in the search engines.  Are you sure Kyle?  Yes, I&#8217;m sure.  I&#8217;ve experienced a complete page rank stripping (from PR4 to PR0) overnight, and my website&#8217;s search engine result pages (SERPs) continued to go UP!  Page rank is simply Google&#8217;s attempt at giving a website a &#8220;rating&#8221;.  I do use it occasionally because advertisers consider page rank when buying links from you.</p>

<p><strong>Google Analytics</strong></p>
<p>Are you not running Google Analytics or some other kind of website statistic harvester?  The information I get from my Analytics reports dictates to me about 75% of the work I do.  It&#8217;s free and awesome.</p>

<p>This tool tells you the top 5 keywords you&#8217;re getting traffic from, as well as a wide array of other useful information about your web presence.</p>

The Federal Communications Commission announced that the auction for the 700mHz wireless spectrum has ended with the closing bid of $19.6 Billion. Expect a higher demand in mobile devices.  Data will be pushed across this wireless spectrum much more freely.  I predict to see a massive explosion of mobile internet browsing and sharing (right now, only about 10% of mobile phone users use the internet).  Bittorrent P2P sharing will boom as people will be more willing to share data if the speeds are faster.  Very exciting stuff&#8230;</p>

<p>HotOrNot.com sold for about $20 million the other day.</p>
<p>Hot or Not has a great story. Basically 2 buddies built a site for fun where people could rate people based on their looks. They always had a moderation queue so they could weed out the pornography. The funny thing behind this is James’s parents were doing most of the moderation for the first couple years of the site. He told me it was kind of weird paying his parents to sort out the porn pictures on Hot or Not. Anyway they implemented a dating/connection component and other items to create revenue over the years. <a href="http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/05/08/hot-or-not-tears-itself-apart-reinvents/"> Techcrunch reported last may</a> the site was bring in 5 million a year in revenue with 2-3 million of that being profit on average. Also reported was that the founders had taken out 20 million from the site over the years.</p>
<p>So this means they have personally taken in 40 million from the site now with the sale.  Great job guys.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>So I recently ordered &#8220;God&#8217;s Chosen Fast&#8221; from an Amazon.com seller.  The book was processed, shipped, and at my door in 3 days.  The package was hand-written on by the seller&#8217;s telling me &#8220;Your Amazon.com marketplace order&#8221;.  This was cool because they saved me the time of wondering what it is (I can even forget I&#8217;ve ordered things sometimes).  So immediately I have this amazing first impression of an online company; they&#8217;re quick too.</p>
<p>I open the package and in it is my book. of course, along with the invoice with a personal &#8220;thank you&#8221; message.  This was also hand written.</p>
<p>Then I thought how this could be such a small little advantage this company has over the trillions of other online bookstores.</p>
<p>What I learned from this is that not only are customers important, they&#8217;re <strong>very </strong>important.  Know what I mean?  Being &#8220;treated right&#8221; as a customer is our standard today.  We expect it.  So, by finding ways to treat your customer EXTRA special, you can have a huge increase in popularity, while also building a database of loyal customers that will come back in the future.</p>
